The session, promoted by EduTech Clúster, Mastercole, Mathew, Ecosistema21 and Junior Report, and with the support of ACCIÓ, brought together around thirty professionals from the educational and technological sector with the aim of sharing practical resources to face the new regulatory requirements and promote a responsible implementation of artificial intelligence.

During the day, the AI4EDU project and the main challenges detected among companies in the sector were presented, such as the lack of specific knowledge about the Regulation, the difficulty in evaluating the risks of artificial intelligence systems or the need to adapt products, processes and documentation to the new regulatory context.

In this sense, Paula Pla, Project Manager of the EduTech Cluster, explained that the project was created to respond to a need detected in the sector: "We have taken all the information from the Regulation and adapted it to the reality of the EdTech sector so that companies have a practical and easy-to-apply guide."

The session also offered a practical explanation of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation and its approach based on the level of risk of the systems. During her speech, Azucena Vázquez, Director of Digital Transformation at Escuela21, highlighted that “the main objective of the Regulation is to promote reliable and human-centered artificial intelligence, guaranteeing the protection of fundamental rights without slowing down innovation and technological investment.” Likewise, he highlighted that compliance with regulations also represents an opportunity for EdTech companies to reinforce user trust and differentiate themselves in the market.

One of the central moments of the day was the presentation of the digital self-diagnosis tool developed within the framework of the project, which is still in its final validation phase. Through a practical demonstration with simulated use cases, the attending companies were able to see how the tool allows them to identify the risk level of their artificial intelligence systems, understand their role in relation to regulations and obtain a report with personalized recommendations and references to the applicable articles of European and Spanish legislation.

During the demonstration, Pedro Martín, Chief of Staff at Mathew, explained that “the objective of the tool is to translate the complexity of the regulations into simple language so that companies can understand where they are and define a first roadmap towards compliance with the AI ​​Act.” He also recalled that this is an indicative and informative tool, designed to facilitate a first self-assessment before resorting, where appropriate, to specialized legal advice.

The debate space made it possible to resolve practical queries raised by participants on issues such as the relationship between the AI ​​Act and data protection regulations, the processing of sensitive information in applications based on artificial intelligence, the application of regulatory requirements to SMEs and startups, as well as the scope of the self-diagnosis tool. During the session, the consortium also explained that the platform is in the final validation phase and invited participating companies to provide comments and suggestions to continue improving it before its final publication.

With this initiative, AI4EDU continues working to turn regulation into an opportunity for EdTech companies to advance towards a safer, more transparent use of artificial intelligence and aligned with the new European standards, making practical resources available to facilitate adaptation to the new regulatory framework.
